Deuteronomy 14:22 says “You shall tithe all the yield of your seed that comes from the field year by year.” This was written for the people in the old testament but still remains true for us today. God asks that we give him 10% of our income as a sign that our hearts are fully trusting God to provide for us, and as a declaration that we put God first above everything else in our lives.
As we give to God faithfully, we see that he is faithful to provide in return all that we can ask or imagine.
